How can i extend my laptop battery life?

I just got a new laptop a few days ago. its a 15.6 inch. I love it except the battery life is a bit low. at least i think. usually around an hour and a half if i dont run anything too extensive. Is there anything i can do to extend the battery life? Iv heard about underclocking the processor to reduce the amount of battery used but idk. any help? ill take any tips but something other than “dim your screen” or “dont use alot of programs” becuase i already do that

  1. Since its a new laptop you got the best operation system: windows 7
in the start menu search type Power Option and select power option and in there select power saver or your laptop’s manufacturer power saving setting option. you can also change it with pressing start+X on your keyboard

  2. If this isn’t a net book the only thing you could try doing is a running the battery calibrator in BIOS. When you r computer boots up look for the option near the bottom left hand part of the screen. When in BIOS you can only use the arrow keys, enter and esc. FYI. Make sure the battery is fully charged run it and unplug the block on the prompt. If this doesn’t increase time the next step to see if a larger capacity battery exists for your laptop. I recommend as a good search tool if its exist is Fedcoelectronics.com.

  3. disable things that you aren’t using at that time eg. wi-fi, blue-tooth and you can dim the screen

  5. We suggest you buy a new larger capacity battery, as yours is a 15.6 inch laptop, it needs more power under normal use.

There are several steps you can take to help you get maximum performance from your battery:

Prevent the Memory Effect of the battery. Keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries which do not suffer from the memory effect.

Keep the Batteries Clean. It’s a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and the portable device.

Exercise the Battery. Do not leave the battery dormant for long periods of time. We recommend using the battery at least once every two to three weeks. If a battery has not been used for a long period of time, perform the new battery break in procedure described above.

Battery Storage. If you don’t plan on using the battery for a month or more, store it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. Ni-Cd, Ni-MH and Li–on batteries will self-discharge during storage; remember to recharge the batteries before use.

Sealed Lead Acid – (SLA). Batteries must be kept at full charge during storage. This is usually achieved by using special trickle chargers. If you do not have a trickle charger, do not attempt to store SLA batteries for more than three months.
